Using a work order form without creating paperwork for its own sake
Forms are only worth the effort if they prevent a misunderstanding. The two that matter most are scope (what you were asked to do) and authorization (who said yes, and up to what amount). Both are on this form.
Keep a pad of printed copies in the truck, fill one in per job, and photograph the signed copy before you leave the site. That alone cuts most billing disputes.
The authorization block
A not-to-exceed figure gives the technician a limit and the customer a ceiling. If the job grows past it, you stop and ask before continuing.
Forms versus a work order app
Paper is fine for a handful of jobs a week. Past that, a searchable list wins because you can find the job from last spring in seconds.
Tired of re-typing the same details?
Keep these jobs in the free work order app instead. Assign a technician, set a due date and see what's overdue, without printing anything.
Template questions
What's the difference between a work order form and a work order template?
In practice they're the same. "Form" usually means the printed sheet you fill in; "template" suggests a reusable file. This page gives you both: a printable form and a CSV.
Do I need a customer signature?
It isn't legally required everywhere for every job, but it's the simplest proof that the work was agreed and finished. Check requirements for your trade and region.
Can I add my logo?
Print the form to PDF, then add your logo in any PDF editor, or write your company name in the header line.
How many copies should I keep?
Give the customer one copy and keep one for your records. Many crews photograph the signed page as a backup.
